This week was zany, wacky and weird as we learned about the letters Z and W. We had fun! Here are some of this week’s highlights.
We read the book 2 Crazy Pigs and wrote about some of the crazy things these pigs did. The kids’ pictures were fantastic!
The kids began a "fall leaf " art project with Ms. Nadine. They enjoyed collecting leaves and then making leaf rubbings with them.
Kindergarten began to write addition and subtraction story problems while pre-k played the game "Roll and Record" which focuses on graphing and writing numbers correctly.
We read The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs and compared and contrasted this story with the original story of The Three Little Pigs. The kids shared their opinions of the book and drew about their favorite part.
We made a birthday graph for our class.
We made worms using two alternating colors and our thumbs to paint our worm in the shape of the letter W.
We ordered the numbers 1-20 and played a game in which the student had to tell the number that came either before or after a certain number (to practice those "tricky teens").
We began to discuss probability in math– whether things are "possible" or "impossible," "likely" or "unlikely," "certain" or "uncertain." We read the book Snowmen at Night and made a list of the things in the story that were possible and the things that were impossible. The kids loved this silly story. We also read the book Wacky Wednesday and the kids drew their own "wacky" pictures of impossible things. They were pretty crazy!
The kids learned that opinions are how you think or feel about something. They were able to share their opinions about different things this week: books, videos, and activities.
We explored rocks as one of the many materials we get from the earth. The kids did a fantastic job of describing the rock’s properties and of drawing a realistic picture of their rocks. We described the rock’s color, shape, texture and hardness. We also talked about what rocks are used for and how they can be used to meet our needs.
