This week we watched as the weather got colder and the leaves changed to vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges Fall is definitely here! It seems like it will only be a short time until winter arrives. Here are some of the things we did this week.
· We learned two new letter combinations– “ee” and “or.” The kids put their ears up like a donkey and say “eeyore, eeyore.”
· The kindergarten kids did a lot of activities using the four letter combinations we have studied so far (ai, oa, ee, and or). We did word sorts with pictures and put them on the appropriate letter combination tree (see the attached pictures), we wrote words containing these four vowel combinations and we did a lot of different vocabulary activities using these words
· We used non-standard units of measurement like connecting cubes and paperclips to estimate the length of and to measure classroom objects.
· We continued with non-standard units of measurement and used our bodies linked together, fingertip to fingertip, to measure how long a great blue whale is. It is 27 kindergarten students long!
· We spent Tuesday with our reading buddies playing the five senses games that we’ve been creating with them. It was a lot of fun to watch the kids do the actions that they had written on their game boards. There were kids jumping up and down, making funny faces, flying around the room like an airplane and crawling like a baby. All of the kids had a lot of fun and look forward to playing it again next
week!
· We read the story Zack the Lazy Zebra and made zebras out of the letter Z.
· We made a huge tree in our room with “ee” words on the leaves.
· We discussed wants and needs, wrote and drew pictures about them and did a picture sort.
· We played “Monster Squeeze” in math and introduced the terms “greater than” and “less than.”
