Jolly Phonics is the curriculum that we use for English and Language Arts. It consists of five main components: learning the letter sounds, learning the letter formations, blending sounds, identifying sounds in words, and learning how to read and spell "tricky" words (words that don't follow the phonetic code).

Raise your hands and snap your fingers like you are playing castanets, ck, ck, ck.

Pretend to tap an egg on the side of a pan, and crack it open saying, eh, eh, eh.

Hold your hand and fan yourself as if you are hot and tired, saying, h, h, h.

Pretend to be a puppy holding a rag. Shake your head from side to side and say rrrrrrrrrrr.

Rub your tummy like you are eating tasty food and say mmmmmmmm!
|
Tap yor hands as if playing a drum and say, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh.

Pretend that water is going down the drain and saying, guh, guh, guh.
|
Pretend to turn a light switch off and on and say o, o, o, o.
|
Pretend to lick a lollipop and say l, l, l, l.
|
Pretend to be putting up an umbrella and say, u, u, u.
|
Put your two hands parallel out in front of you and push them together as if deflating a floatie, saying fffffffffffff.

Swing your arms as if hitting a baseball with a bat, saying
b, b, b. |
Jiggle your body like jello and say, j, j, j.
|
Put your arms by your sides and move them around while buzzing like a bee... zzzzzzz.

Put your hand up in a salute and say, "ie, ie."

Put your hands on top of your head like ears and move them up and down as you say "eeyore,, eeyore."

Pretend you are a weightlifter and you are lifting a heavy weight above your head saying ng, ng, ng.

Pretend you are a cuckoo clock and move your head forward and backwards as you say oo...00, oo...00.

Make a duck's beak with your hands and say "qu, qu, qu..."
|
Move your arms by your sides as if you were a train saying ch, ch, ch.
|
Place your finger over your lips and say sh, sh.
|
Pretend to be a naughty clown and stick out your tongue first a little saying th, and then out further saying th.

Pretend your finger is a needle and you prick your thumb, saying ou, ou!
|
Cup your hands over your mouth as if to another boat and yell, "oil, ships ahoy!"

Point to the people around you and say "you, you, you."
|
Open your mouth wide and say "ah" as if you were at the doctors.
*This is the British way of pronouncing "ar." I taught the children to pronounce it as "r." |
