classroom jobs
Classroom jobs are very important to the structure and the understanding of our class. Not only do classroom jobs teach students about the importance of different roles in our learning community, but they also instill in children a sense of responsibility and importance. The repetition of the jobs helps solidify the intended learning and helps them to make daily connections. These are the various roles we have in our classroom.
calendar Helper
The calendar helps us to work on patterns, number recognition and counting, months of the year and days of the week. It also helps us to understand before, after, next, tomorrow, yesterday, today. Through our calendar the students are beginning to understand the past, present and future as well as many other things.

Number of the day
The number of the day tracks how many days we have been in school. Since learning numbers to 100 is a goal of our class, we are able to name, write, and break down numbers every day.
|
Weather Helper
The weather helper has three jobs. 1. To identify (with the help and input of the class) what the weather is like each day. They move the spinner to show the correct weather. 2. They make tally marks under the correct day. This helps with their understanding of what tally marks are and what they represent. It also helps us to learn to count by 5's.
|
Weather graph
The third job of the weather helper is to help our class create our weather graph. So far we have tracked August since the beginning of school and September up until this point. We compare the weather daily, looking at what kind of weather we've seen most and least often, and to be able to explain if there are any kinds of weather that we have seen for the same amount of days.
|
Survey Helper
The survey helper helps read the survey question of the day and then takes count of how students answer. This builds tally and number writing skills as well as increases our awareness of our individuality and our differences.
|
Line Leader
The line leader is an important role as it takes a lot of responsibility. They set an example for the rest of the class how to walk correctly in line. They also get the privilege of picking a "goodbye rhyme" every time we leave our classroom. Saying these rhymes daily will make learning rhyming so much easier. Some of our favorites are "Blow a kiss, jellyfish!" and "Toodle-oo, kangaroo!."
|
Attendance helper
The attendance helper helps us track who is here every day. Their job is to pass out stickers to each student as they come into the morning circle and sit down. Then each student is responsible for finding their name and tracking across the page until they find the correct day, then putting their sticker on that rectangle. This will help them with graphing and graph reading as they get older.
|
Caboose
The caboose's job is to make sure we all stay together. They keep a watchful eye on the group and make sure that everyone is following expectations as we walk.
|
Schedule HelperThe schedule helper helps us to know what to expect each day. They are responsible for finding the correct specials (music, art, or P.E.) and any other special activity we have during the week (library, reading buddies, computers) and placing them in the correct place in the daily schedule. This helps emergent readers identify words by beginning sound and to identify and begin reading the days of the week.
|
Snack HelperThe snack helper brings our afternoon snack to the table and helps clean up after snack is over.
