It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
This week our classroom was transformed into a winter wonderland! We have a Christmas tree that the kids decorated, snowflakes that the kids cut out, and all sorts of decorations on the windows and hanging from the ceiling. It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! This week our class got a letter from Santa saying that he sent one of his special elves to watch the kids’ behavior in the classroom. He has been in our class all week watching so that he can give Santa a report. His name is Jingle and he likes to be sneaky!
We learned the letters x and y this week.
We read The Yak who Yelled Yuck! And made our own yaks out of the letter Y. We had been talking about yaks anyways because we get wool from them that we can use to make yarn which is then used to make clothes, which we all need!
We learned how to weave with paper this week to demonstrate how clothes are made. The kids made some colorful projects!
For the letter X, we made "x-rays" of our hands. Then during math we practiced counting the fingers by 5’s.
Kindergarten is beginning to learn about "magic e." When "e" comes at the end of a word, it can jump over one letter and if it finds a vowel, it can make that vowel say its name. We played several matching games and then introduced a board game about words that end in "magic e."
Last week we handed out November awards. We had 5 attendance award winners, 2 math star winners, and one homework hero. The kids are doing a fantastic job!
In math this week we built patterns using pattern blocks, we com-pared the weather from October and November, and we practiced using the words "more" and "less" in different contexts.
