We have learned the blends "gl" and "gr" this week.
We have been practicing counting down from twenty. We made charts to cross out how many days we have left and wewill prac-tice counting backwards each day. This will help them as they continue to learn how to subtract.
We made addition bracelets this week. We each made bracelets with 10 beads on them. Students can use these bracelets to add or subtract to 10. For example, if you put three beads on one side, there will be 7 on the other…3 + 7 = 10. Subsequently, 10-7=3.
We continued to learn about constellations this week and added some of the real constellations to our made-up ones. We have been continuing to track the phases of the moon and record them using black paint and paper plates.
We have begun to make our solar system. We are using paper Mache to make the planets and the sun. When we finish the outside we will paint them to make them more realistic.
We read a folk tale from South Korea this week called The Green Frogs. It was about two little frogs who didn’t obey or listen to their mother. Then she died and they finally obeyed her, but to this day little children in South Korea who don’t lis-ten to their mothers are called "green frogs." We then made frogs and wrote about the story inside.
We began to write about our pictures this week. We have writ-ten about two life events so far and will write some more next week. Then, when we finish with those, we will begin to write about what they foresee for their future.
We have been continuing to work with place value, playing mul-tiple games and talking about it each morning using the date (for example, How many tens and ones are in 23?).
We are still tracking our sunflowers’ growth each week and they are getting taller every day! The kids love coming in every morning and going straight to the window to see how much their plants have changed!
This week we read about spring, summer, and fall and drew what people wear in each of these seasons.
