First of all, thank you to all the parents who came to QISS last Saturday to see our Key Assignments and to watch the China Day performances. The kids did a fantastic job preparing and performing for both. Here is what this week brought us:
We introduced the digraph “ch” and made “choo-choo” train cars containing “ch” words.
We practiced adding using two dice. We rolled them, added the two numbers together and then graphed our responses. We found that the numbers 2 and 12 were particularly uncommon rolls and we discussed why: that there is only one possi- ble way to roll the dice to get to those numbers (1 and 1 or 6 and 6).
We also introduced the digraph “sh” and read a book called “Rainbow Fish discovers the Deep Sea.” Then we made our own rainbow fish and discussed how Rainbow Fish showed courage in this story.
We also did a lot of activities involving shapes this week, which coincidentally corresponded to our “sh” study. We made shapes with our bodies, we read a book about shapes, we created artwork using different shapes and we compared shapes by talking about their attributes.
We began talking about different animals and the similarities and differences between them: where they live, what their skin covering is (feathers, scales, fur, etc), what their families are like, and how they are like humans.
Mac had a special day this week as we celebrated his 5th birthday with delicious chocolate cupcakes and lots of singing!
Key assignment pictures and videos will be up soon. I’ve been running into technical difficulties up to this point, but soon they will all be posted!
We will be taking a field trip to Polar Ocean World on February 12th, the Wednesday after we return to school. If you haven’t already, please turn in your child’s permission slip by Monday the 10th.
